Best practice governance process to develop local Map pathways

NHS Tees, consisting of NHS Hartlepool, NHS Middlesbrough, NHS Redcar and Cleveland and NHS Stockton-on-Tees, set up a sustainable best practice governance process in partnership with each provider organisation that helps the healthcare community to develop local Map pathways.

Firstly, a Map of Medicine Steering Group was established, including all key stakeholders across Tees, to develop governance arrangements ensuring appropriate control and consistency of approach for agreeing local changes to Map pathways.

A process flowchart outlining the accountability and decision making process was created.  Alongside this, supporting criteria and checklists for submission using a standard template for collating administrative and/or clinical information were developed and agreed.

The local administration editors were then provided with training from the Map of Medicine team to be able to edit the Map pathways and implement the agreed changes through the appropriate governance arrangements. All changes then have a clear audit trail and are subject to review by the Steering Group working to agreed process.
